SINOPSIS:

Gulu es una pequeña ciudad situada en el norte de Uganda en una zona asolada por una terrible guerra civil protagonizada por El Ejercito de Liberación del señor (LRA) y el gobierno de Uganda. La dureza de un conflicto que dura ya casi 30 años y los problemas propios del África negra nos presentan un panorama sombrío y con poco espacio para la esperanza.

Sin embargo, un buen día, un fotógrafo de Jerez de la Frontera movido por la inquietud personal de ayudar, llega a impartir un curso de fotografía en colaboración con una ONG local. Aquel primer encuentro con los jóvenes de Gulu le cambia la vida y decide embarcarse en crear una escuela permanente para ayudar a unos jóvenes ávidos de conocimiento. Entre ellos surge una bella historia de superación, de ilusión, de colaboración y de esperanza.

Dear members and partners HYPOHEALS,

Os envío unas breves líneas para que comprobéis que el proyecto de la escuela de fotografía de Uganda sigue muy vivo pese a la pésima situación económica global por la que atravesamos. Ellos están más acostumbrados que nosotros y muestran siempre una cara mucho más optimista.

El proyecto camina, no sin dificultades, hacia su cuarto año, y de momento nuestro objetivo pasa por garantizar el pago de los 120 euros de alquiler y otros pequeños gastos como electricidad hasta final de año. Entonces habrá que solicitar de nuevo vuestras cuotas para asegurar la continuidad en 2011. Como sabéis tenemos mucha fe en el mismo y vuestro apoyo está siendo fundamental, no nos cansaremos de agradecerlo.

I send a few lines to proof that the school project photo in Uganda remains very much alive despite the awful global economic situation we are all going through. In Uganda, they are more used to this situation than us and always show a more optimistic face.

The project walks, not without difficulties, into its fourth year, and our goal goes far to ensure the payment of the 120 euros for rent and other expenses such as electricity until the end of the year. Then we'll have to reapply for your contributions to ensure continuity in 2011. As you know we have great faith in it and your support is still essential, we will not stop being thankful to you all.

La rutina del trabajo propio hace que estemos algo estancados en la campaña de captación de socios colaboradores, somos ya casi setenta entre los que he captado yo en el sur (38) y los que ha conseguido mi socio Luis en tierras navarras (31). Esto hace que la recaudación para el 2011 pueda llegar a ser de unos 1700 euros si todos os apuntáis a donar los 24 euros anuales de la cuota. Teniendo en cuenta que el alquiler del local son 120 mensuales más unos 15 ó 20 de electricidad, vuestras aportaciones garantizarán que sigamos vivos un año más.

The routine of our own jobs back home makes us a bit stucked  in our raising membership campaign. We are now almost seventy among those who I have picked in the south of Spain (38), and the ones that convinced my partner Luis in Navarra (31). This makes that the budget for 2011 may work out to be around 1700 euros if all you join to donate the 24 euros anual fee. Considering that the rental of the new place is 120 euros a month, plus 15 to 20 euros of the electricity bill, your contributions will ensure that we continue alive one more year.

Los alumnos están muy contentos con lo aprendido y siguen practicando la materia, especialmente ahora que tienen vacaciones escolares. Deseamos que pronto empiecen a generar sus propios ingresos mediante trabajillos que les puedan surgir como reportajes, etc. Luis por ejemplo consiguió cerrar un acuerdo con una escuela de negocios de Gulu para el uso de nuestro laboratorio por alumnos diferentes a los nuestros, esto genera algunos ingresos para gastos de materiales, y también estamos estudiando la idea de abrir un pequeño cyber-café en el centro que haga nuestra comunicación con los alumnos sea mucho más fluida. Esta inversión sería hecha por un posible socio ugandés interesado en instalar los equipos para ser usados de cara a la calle como negocio y por nuestro chicos de manera gratuita.

Students are excited about what they learned and still practise the art, especially now that they have school holidays. We will soon begin to generate their own incomes through odd jobs that may arise as reports, etc. Luis got a deal with a business school in Gulu for the use of our laboratory for students different from ours, this generates some revenue for expenditure on materials, and we are also studying the idea of opening a small cyber-café in the center to make our communications with the students much more fluid. This investment would be made by a Ugandan potential partner interested in installing the equipment to be exploded as a business for the locals and our kids would get access for free.

Os envío algunas fotos de los alumnos, en ellas no prima tanto la calidad de los archivos que han escaneado de fotos reveladas por ellos en el laboratorio de blanco y negro, si no la ilusión de estos nuevos ojos que se abren en Africa y su historia.

I send you some pictures of the students, don´t pay atention to the quality of the files, as the students have scanned  their own developed black and white film, just pay atention to these new eyes opening in Africa and its history .

ULTIMA VISITA A GULU UGANDA

A principios del mes de abril se visitó de nuevo la escuela HYPOHEALS en Gulu.

El objetivo era llevar nuevos equipos informáticos y fotográficos así como la realización de un taller sobre composición fotográfica y desarrollo de proyectos fotográficos

El resultado fue altamente satisfactorio y de nuevo los jóvenes participantes tuvieron la oportunidad de mejorar su técnica y sus ideas.

Los equipos aportados incluían:

• 2 ordenadores portátiles
• 2 cámaras réflex canon analógicas
• 1 cámara réflex canon digital
• Un escáner de negativos
• Numeroso material químico para el revelado BN
• Baterías para cámaras
• Una Webcams y diversos accesorios informáticos
• 50 cámaras analógicas compactas
• Un flash Metz 45 con soporte y cámara Minolta TTL
• Cargador de pilas recargables

Ciertamente la posibilidad de tener un espacio de reunión para el desarrollo de actividades formativas y culturales ciertamente esta enriqueciendo la vida de estos jóvenes.

Además tras la realización de varias gestiones se han conseguido desarrollar dos convenios:

Con la NORTHERN INSTITUTE OF BUSINESS STUDIES (NIBS) con el director y presidente respectivamente Omona Venis y Aligech George. Dicha escuela comenzará a utilizar el laboratorio BN en nuestras instalaciones de forma gratuita y a cambio proporcionara formación en fotografía a los alumnos de HYPOHEALS.

Con ASANTI AFRIKAN DANCERS (AAD) y con Jimmi Onen como representante del mismo con el que se pretende instalar junto a los alumnos de HYPOHEALS un café de Internet que permitirá genera algunos ingresos así como la comunicación directa y constante con la Asociación HYPOHEALS.

LAST VISIT TO GULU

In early Apri we visited again HYPOHEALS school in Gulu.

The aim was to bring new computers and photographic as well as conducting a workshop on photographic composition and how to develop photographic projects.

The result was highly satisfactory and again the young participants had the opportunity to improve his technique and ideas.

The equipment provided included:

• • 2 laptops
• • 2 analogical Canon SLR cameras
• • 1 canon digital SLR camera
• • A negative scanner
• • A number of chemicals for developing BW
• • Batteries for cameras
• • A Webcam and various computer accessories
• • 50 analogue compact cameras
• • A Metz 45 flash with bracket and TTL Minolta camera
• • Rechargeable Battery Charger

Certainly the possibility of having a meeting space for the development of educational and cultural activities is certainly enriching the lives of these young people.

Also, we have succeeded in developing two collaboration agreements:
